All about the new Year One classes!

Today was our last transition morning in Year 1. We have had a brilliant week and we’re looking forward to starting Year One in September.
Miss Kingsley and Miss Plant wanted to get to know us a bit better, so they asked us to make a book about ourselves using Book Creator on the iPads.
The book had to include:

Our name
Favourite food
Best friend
Favourite colour
Favourite thing to do at school
An interesting fact

Here are some examples. What do you think?

Year One write their own versions of some Michael Rosen poems!

Today in Year One we have written our own versions of Michael Rosen’s ‘I’m Carrying the Baby’ and ‘A Little Boy Came Down to Breakfast’. We had to change certain words. Please listen to us reading our poems aloud and let us know what you think!

Year 1 recite their favourite poems by Michael Rosen!

As this week is National Children’s Book Week, we are spending the afternoons reading and performing some of our favourite poems by the fabulous Michael Rosen. We recorded our friends performing them in front of the green screen, trying our best to hold the camera still!

What do you think? We LOVE reading! Please keep an eye on our blog as tomorrow we will be writing and performing our own versions of ‘I’m carrying the baby’!

Another action packed transition morning for Reception!

Wow! We have been so busy in our new classrooms this week! Our focus book this morning was ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. We read the chapter called ‘Turkish Delight’ and watched this clip:

We then tasted Turkish delight and described how it tasted, looked and felt. We recorded our thoughts on the iPads:

As it’s Book Week, we were then treated to an exciting performance of ‘Space Jump’! It was so amazing that we sat beautifully for a whole hour!

Reception have a Space-tastic time exploring the setting of ‘The Way Back Home’!

Reception had lots of fun during transition in Year 1 this morning! We read ‘The Way Back Home’  and described the setting of the story.

We we used Explain Everything on the iPads to send ourselves into Space, just like the boy in the story!

We even learnt a dance called the Space Bop! Watch this video to find out more!

Year 1 FaceTime with Caryl Hart!

As this week is National Children’s Book Week, Year 1 were treated to a FaceTime visit from one of our favourite authors: Caryl Hart. We loved our topic on her book ‘How to Grow a Dinosaur’. Here’s a reminder of the story!

Caryl told us all about her job as an author, showed us her bookcase and her writing office and even gave us a sneaky preview of her next book! We’re so lucky!

She gave us some great advice – keep reading as this will make our writing even better!

Thank you so much Caryl for this amazing experience!

Reception Skype the children’s author Greg Dobbins!

As this week is National Children’s Book Week, Reception had a very special virtual visit from an author during their transition time in Year 1 this morning.

Greg Dobbins chatted to us via Skype and told us all about why he became an author. He asked us what you need to write. We had some great ideas such as a computer, an idea, illustrations, a blurb and a pen!

Greg then read his book called ‘The Positively Pleasant Pirates’ which was perfect after our pirate topic this year!

Thank you Greg for a fantastic experience!

Bringing mythical monsters to life!

During our topic work on mythical monsters from around the world, we have learnt about their habitats. Nessie lives in Loch Ness, Champ lives in Lake Champlain in America, Bigfoot lives in the forests of America and Canada, the Yeti lives in the snowy Himalayan mountains and the Sirens lived in the Mediterranean Sea near Greece.

We painted our own versions of the monsters’ habitats and used them as a backdrop to these fab animations. We used the app iMotion and learnt that we have to keep the iPad very still and only move the monster very slightly!

What do you think of our work?

Monster Day madness!

We’d like to say a huge thank you for embracing our monster day yesterday! Your little monsters looked absolutely fantastic! We had a very busy day!

We looked amazing in our costumes!

We read our favourite monster story!

We learnt the Monster Bop!

Would you like to learn how to do the Monster Bop at home? Watch this instructional video to find out how!

We learnt about different mythical monsters around the world and used Chatterpix app on the iPads to bring the monsters to life!

We made edible monster slime! Would you like to make your own? Watch this video to find out how!
